Dance Leader

Unfortunately, because of a family medical emergency, our original dance leader, Susan Kevra, is unable to join us at Fandango this year. In an extraordinary stroke of good fortune, the amazing Gene Murrow is available to lead us instead.

Gene Murrow

Gene Murrow has been an English Country Dancer and musician since 1965 and has taught and called since 1988 at clubs, workshops, festivals and balls throughout the U.S. as well as Britain, Europe and Japan. As a dance musician he performs on recorders and concertina and has made four CD recordings.

Gene approaches English country dance as a medium in which dancers and musicians alike participate in the realization of works of art. His dance workshops strive to make their richness of structure, musical form, texture, and affect enjoyable and appreciated by dancers of all abilities.

Gene is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Gotham Early Music Scene, a service and advocacy organization for early music in New York City, and has served on the Board of Directors of CDSS, Early Music America, American Recorder Society, and Pinewoods Camp, Inc.

Alchemy

Alchemy brings together three dynamic players steeped in traditional English Country Dance and contra dance music: Rachel Bell, Karen Axelrod and Eric Martin. Individually, they have performed across the United States, Canada, and Europe. As a trio, their improvisatory style brings a contemporary and innovative feel to both traditional and newly composed tunes and songs.

From driving Scottish Reels to French Mazurkas and everything in between, Alchemy delights the listener with heartfelt performances with a touch of whimsy. Alchemy plays English country dances, contra dances, concerts, and more, and is in high demand for English country dance weekends and other special events.
